Crick Smith Conservation University of Lincoln will be hosting a series of four workshops in 2011 aimed at those working and interested in the heritage sector. Although course fees and dates are yet to be confirmed, potential applicants are invited to register their interest at this early stage, by following the link at the foot of this page.

Introduction to Gilding techniques (1 day)

A FREE practical workshop providing an introduction to traditional gilding, including an overview of gilding techniques; how to prepare an object for gilding; handling materials; gilding tools; applying the leaf; toning and distressing and aftercare of gilded objects.

Conservation & Restoration: An Introduction to the Care of Historic Collections

Aimed at individuals involved in the care of historic objects and collections. This practical workshop will examine; environmental monitoring; preventive conservation; pest management; safe moving & handling; storage and display and condition surveys.
It is intended to run this 1 day course during Spring 2011, in Lincoln

Managing the Redevelopment of Historic Interiors. Conservation Awareness On-site:  

Aimed at those redeveloping historic properties and interiors, it includes how to identify and best protect a range of historic features, how to develop a simple training plan for site workers to protect the existing fabric during redevelopment and how to work with specialist conservation contractors, with the option of 2 modules

1. A 2 day programme aimed at site workers and trades people

2. A 1 day programme aimed at Project Managers working with trades people


Both courses can be provided on the project site and are not date specific. Crick Smith UL can provide this training at a time and venue to suit your requirements

3D Digital Conservation for Conservators.

This workshop would be of interest to curators and conservators wanting to learn the latest techniques for digital reconstruction and fabrication of historic objects. It includes an overview of 3D laser scanning, modeling in CAD and using rapid prototyping to reproduce historic artifacts.
It is intended to run this 1 day course during Spring 2011, in Lincoln

Each workshop is delivered in either the heart of the historic city of Lincoln, or if required provision can be made to run courses on site to suit your requirements
