A background in archaeology has proved advantageous in informing the methodology Michael uses to disentangle the layers of paint found in historic buildings.
Michael also undertook degree study in Conservation and Restoration in Lincoln where he focused his research on decorative finishes, applied to furniture and architecture, prior to an internship at English Heritage. Michael feels strongly about the ethical principles of conservation and the need for the sophisticated techniques of analysis used in the field of Architectural Paint Research to be used to inform the preservation of our heritage.
Michael is expert in paint formulations and technologies and is gifted with extraordinary observational skills and visual memory.
