Allyson’s Practice was established in 1980 and has earned a worldwide reputation in the care and conservation of historic interiors, including many important, award winning restoration projects which have won widespread acclaim. The Practice particularly specialises in the investigation, preservation, restoration and reproduction of traditional wallpapers and painted schemes.

Allyson served on the Board of Trustees of The Institute of Conservation and Trinity House, was Chair of the Historic Interiors Group ICON, and on the committee of the Wallpaper History Society, The Historic Paint Forum and the Grants Committee of the Museums’ and Galleries’ Commission. She lectures extensively on wallpaper and the conservation of the historic interior, has written many articles on the subject, and has a continuing commitment to professional training, providing internships, seminars and workshops for conservators, curators, architects and building professionals. She is a past advisor to Sotheby’s and The National Trust, and has undertaken research into the use of Chinese Papers in the English Country House as part of the V & A / RCA Conservation Programme.

Allyson and her team operate throughout the UK for architects, contractors and private individuals, as well as high profile organisations like Historic Royal Palaces, English Heritage, The National Trust and Historic Scotland. She has also worked on conservation projects elsewhere in Europe, the USA, Australia and Africa, and has recently participated as the British partner of a pan European wallpaper project funded by the EU.
