Crick Smith is a company that specialises in the conservation of the decorative interiors in historic and listed buildings. We are also researchers, advisors and practitioners on the conservation of historic decoration and artifacts. Crick Smith is a professional team that has been providing conservation services and training since 1974.

The consultancy has been involved in the conservation of more than 400 historic properties, throughout the British Isles, for a range of clients responsible for the built heritage. We can offer this service to anyone wanting to gain a better understanding of their building or having to make decisions about future decoration.

Crick Smith operates as a commercial arm of the University of Lincoln and is based in the historic quarter of this beautiful city. Ongoing development of the business is strengthened by the innovation and integration of high-tec equipment and methodologies designed to improve the quality, efficacy and cost-effectiveness of the historic building and materials conservation and advisory services that we deliver.

Recent developments for Crick Smith include an appointment by HRH Prince Charles to undertake extensive research of interiors and artifacts held within Dumfries House, Ayrshire; a property of which the Prince is a Founder Trustee. We have also recently been appointed as curators and managers of the English Heritage Archive of Historic Interiors Research. This will be managed by the Crick Smith Team and housed within our facility at the University of Lincoln.

Over many years our team of highly professional, skilled and experienced conservators have built a wealth of knowledge about conserving buildings and historic objects or artifacts in situ, as well as at the bench. The range of services we offer and our experience of materials is increasing all the time and we welcome your enquiries on all conservation issues. Please contact us if you feel that we can help you or offer you advice.
